On the 18th of June there was a Forum held at the Colombian Congress, to call for an energy embargo for Palestine. Despite president Petro’s Presidential Decree demanding to stop all coal exports from Colombia to Israel, Colombia remains its largest exporter of coal to this day.
Karmen Ramirez, an indigenous Wayuú representative and International Seat for Congress, held this Forum coming together with former Minister of Mines and Energy, Andres Camacho, to announce the creation of a Global Energy Embargo Bill.
This Bill calls for international unity to uphold the ICJ’s ruling, and cut all commercial and political relations with Israel immediately.
Such an initiative comes at an imperative moment, as Colombia will hold the next meeting of the Hague Group in July, pushing other States for bolder action towards an energy embargo.
