Brazil-Italy-Israel Crude Oil Corridor
Allegedly, under pressure from oil workers and the public, Brazil stopped shipping crude oil directly to Israel in 2025. However, a new route of supplying this energy source to Israel emerged through the operations of companies with long histories of corruption, environmental devastation and Indigenous rights violations. The new, indirect route involves shipping crude oil from Brazil to a refinery in Sardinia, from where refined fuel is further shipped to Israel. This refined fuel directly powers aircraft and on-ground military operations of the IOF and emboldens its military capacity.. This corridor of refining effectively bypasses the Brazil's government's denouncement of Israel's actions as genocide, exposing a sharp political contradiction between official statements and commercial reality.
WHAT WE DO
Our strategy in this supply route is to build a connected struggle across the supply chain by targetting a key actor: the oil trading company Vitol. We are part of a campaign that connects grassroots indigenous land rights movements fighting extractivism in Latin America, Brazilian oil workers pushing for rank-and-file resolutions to stop the export of Brazilian crude oil to Israel, anarchist and dockworkers in Italy opposing militarism and student and anti-corporate movements in Switzerland to go after Vitol, a privately-owned and financially-obscure but crucial actor in moving energy internationally, including in powering the genocide in Palestine. This coalition embeds itself in grounded, meaninful struggle in the local context which is internationally coordinated. The campaign is also linked to the 'No Harbour for Genocide' campaign to target the shipping of energy sources and to bring accountability to the infrastrucutre of the global maritime industry.
